iPad App Design

Rudder is an iPad app specifically designed for mothers entering empty nest stages of life. It replaces their planners and journals. Each weeks tasks are added automatically to their schedule.

Karol is a mother, I based this app off her extensive planning and journalling which I documented through photo ethnography. We wrote out Karols goals and mind-mapped them. This helped me understand how the app would work. By tagging key words to each goal this app will be able to track what tasks are contributing to certain goals

One of the reasons we decided to design an iPad app as opposed to a phone app was because Karol likes the bigger screen. She is also not great at technology so it needed to be very user friendly, simple and intuitive.

Scroll through and add in daily tasks, check them off as you complete them. If you wantspecific reminders sent to your device write them down in the reminders column. Navigate easily through your journal. Search for specific titles or entry dates. Check off days on your yearly planner!

Each weekly task is connected to a goal via tags. This section of the app allows you to visualise how completed tasks are meeting those goals. Set yourself rewards for completing tasks and reaching checkpoints along your goal progression. View each year’s diary in your gallery.

Branding

We made this app look distinctly feminine. This appeals to women who love pretty stationary design. The soft colours calm the app user as they plan their busy week.
